Hey there 👋
We're Evan Johnson and Alan Braithwaite, co-founders of RunReveal, the security data platform that unifies tooling and simplifies log management.
After spending combined decades in the trenches as security practitioners and engineers, we built RunReveal to solve a problem that kept us up at night: Security logs and telemetry are crucial, yet ridiculously difficult to manage effectively. We've watched traditional solutions become disjointed, wildly expensive, and unnecessarily complex.
In creating RunReveal and working with security teams of all shapes and sizes, we've developed strong opinions on how security engineering should work: How to handle massive scale, when and how to adopt new technologies, and how to build resilient systems that recover from incidents with grace (or as much grace as possible). (And we’re learning new things every day from our amazing customers!)
And let’s be candid (iykyk, Radical Candor is one of Evan’s top books): This newsletter is not a product update feed or thinly-veiled sales pitch.
This is a newsletter for simply good security engineering content, written by security practitioners for security practitioners.
In that, we may cover new technologies, tools, products, and vendors we think are interesting and may be helpful for security teams. We’ll also cover a variety of other topics like:
Practical detection engineering strategies
SIEM architecture decisions that won't come back to haunt you
Hard-earned lessons from real-world incident response scenarios
Our hot takes on emerging security tools, vendors, trends, conferences (!) and more
If you're interested in security engineering news and best practices, or you want to watch our perspectives evolve (and sometimes completely change) as the landscape shifts, give us a follow and join the conversation.
